VS Medical Trust is a non- profit organisation founded in 2003 with a mission to provide access to affordable and quality cancer care for all. It has been funded primarily by the VS group of Hospitals, with occasional support from a few cancer survivors and pharma companies.
For the first time, the VS Medical and Charitable trust is reaching out to the public. Today, science has the tools to fight cancer- help us take them to those who need it.

At VS, everyone from the founder, directors, doctors, nurses, technicians, sanitary workers, volunteers and all other staff, form one large and harmonious family.
As one, all members of the VS family realise the need for utmost care and compassion in the treatment of cancer patients. With unfailing gentleness, they go about soothing and helping patients and attenders.
As firmly believed by the founder, Dr.Subramanian, doctors only treat. God heals. To that end, patients are instilled with hope, positivity and cheer; with the belief that they can overcome the disease.

Founded alongside the flagship VS Hospitals for Cancer Care in Chetpet, Chennai, India, The VS Medical Trust is an extension of one man’s desire to serve his society. Father of Modern Oncology in India, Dr.S.Subramanian, spent the prime of his life helping the underprivileged in their battle against the dreaded Cancer. He started the department of Medical Oncology in the then Madras Government General Hospital- the first of its kind in India.
For decades he fought alongside the multitudes assailed by Cancer, giving them hope and strength along with medicine. He started the post graduate course in medical oncology at Madras medical college and tutored a great many budding oncologists, imparting to them his knowledge and his principles.
At the age of 60, on retirement from government service, he refused to believe that he was too old to serve. Defying age, he embarked on his most ambitious project yet. In order to continue treating the poor, he needed infrastructure and funds. He decided to build a comprehensive state of the art hospital. Supported in his dream by his wife and sons, he founded the VS Hospital for Cancer Care in 2003.
His no compromise attitude and determination to provide only the best in terms of infrastructure and facilities cost him dear. Putting his faith in God and in himself, he procured huge loans, taking risks that would daunt men half his age. Bound by financial constraints, nevertheless, his first action on the launch of the 30 bedded hospital was to declare 5 beds free. Five people a day were given beds, food and consultation absolutely free of cost. Medicines, surgery and radiotherapy were given at much subsidised rates not only for the five patients each day but to countless others as well.
Over the years the VS organisation has grown exponentially as a family encompassing The VS Hospital for Cancer Care, The VS Medical Trust, Madras Cancer Institute, The VS Child Care and The VS Multispecialty.
The VS Medical Trust has stayed committedly on its course of philanthropy. Vasantham is a support group initiated by the VS Medical Trust. Cancer Survivors meet patients and make them understand that cancer need not be fatal. The Madras Cancer Institute was formed and funded by the VS Medical Trust to start the MCI recognised post graduation course – DM Oncology.
Everyday ten patients are given free beds and excellent care. Women above forty are encouraged to do routine Cancer screening. Ten mammograms are done free of cost every day.
